The beauty of natural wood veneer

I laid up some leaves of crotch Black Walnut veneer with a client recently.

Much of the beauty of natural wood veneer resides in the eye of the viewer. Perhaps amplified in burls and crotches, but given enough consideration, all veneers contain characteristics that identify it as something unique and natural. Much like stone or fabrics, each individual cut reveals something a little different from the original piece it was cut from.

Opening a flitch of veneer can be like opening a book, every coupon telling a little different version of the same event than the one that preceded it.
